Trinity Summer Concerts This summer, Trinity folk will meet on selected Thursday evenings for a potluck summer great music as we enjoy "Music in the Other Park" in St. James Park, across from the church. Click here for more information. Lunch for People who are Homeless The May lunch was prepared and served by 12 volunteers and enjoyed by about 90 lunchers at Cecil White Center. As with each of our visits, residents from nearby Julian St Inn joined the clients of Cecil White Center for lunch. Our offering this month of pasta with chicken and julienne-cut spinach, spicy garlic bread, and green salad, along with milk, ice cream sundaes, and a selection of cakes, was most appreciated. Thank you to Leslie Barr for planning the meal and many thanks to Marge Lobbes for doing all the shopping. We were fortunate this month to have returning volunteer, Shelley Kesselman who enlisted a new volunteer, her husband Jeff! While Marge and Shelley, along with Joyce Baker cut up the chicken, Jeff worked with Rick Hawes and friends of the parish Susan Parks and Ben White slicing and dicing the veggies and lettuce for our salad. Meanwhile, Young Min Seo, cut up two large bags of spinach for the main dish. Not to waste valuable help, Jeff was also drafted to work on the spicy garlic bread team. With Karen Gillette lavishly brushing and scooping garlic butter, prepared by no other than Shelley, onto the French bread, meticulously halved by Jeff, friend of the parish Ira Cohen, applied the final cuts for perfectly sized pieces of garlic bread. Many thanks to Roger Lobbes as well as Susan and Shelley for slaving over the hot stove sautéing all of the chicken and bringing to boil the big pots of water for the pasta. Susan and Shelley were our quality control supervisors, making sure the food was not only pleasing to the eye but also had the right snap on the taste buds. Thanks to Rita Welsh for doing a wonderful job slicing and arranging the cakes. With Roger organizing the servers, all went smoothly. Another set of thanks goes to Ira and Ben for enthusiastically volunteering to scoop out, from buckets of extremely hard frozen ice cream, 90 sundaes! Thanks again to Lucky supermarket, at the corner of Saratoga Ave. and Pruneridge Ave. in Santa Clara, and managers, Andrew and Greg, and bakers, Bertha, Ernie, Amina, and Sandy for their continuing support. They donated loaves of French bread for our garlic bread along with several cakes and other baked goods. The staff at Cecil White was very happy to receive the extra bread, as their pantry was extremely bare and the supplies were much appreciated. Many thanks, again, to Ben White, for arranging and delivering Lucky’s donation. The next lunch will be held on Saturday, June 7th, 2008. At least 10 volunteers are needed for this local mission activity so if your schedule allows please consider coming and helping. We meet to prepare lunch at 10:15 am in the kitchen of the Parish Hall. No experience is required, just a desire to help those less fortunate than ourselves. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall. If you have any questions, please ask any of the volunteers or Fr. Bird.
