Sunday School Sunday School for all our children is primarily relational – the curriculum is just one of the many “tools” that they use to help their students find a closer relationship with God through their relationship with one another. At Trinity Cathedral, we believe that Christian education is a life-long learning experience. We offer a variety of classes for all ages from two years of age through adult. The Sunday School program is an active and dynamic period for children who are from the ages of two through 5th grade. The Sunday School hour starts with an engaging Children's Worship Service, during which children sing, read scripture, and pray together. Children then break into age-appropriate classes, in which they participate in activity-based Bible lessons that utilize multiple learning styles to teach the week's lesson. Through music, arts and crafts, drama and other workshops, our 1st through 5th grade school-age children learn the major Bible stories. Schedule Each week the Sunday School hourly schedule is:

Arrival and Dismissal As in all loving families, one of our priorities is to make sure each child is well cared for and safe. Our class sizes necessitate we pay special attention to a few details concerning arrival and dismissal policies to ensure the children’s safety and parental peace of mind.
Acolytes The office of acolyte was established very early in Christian history, around 250 AD. Samuel is considered to have been the first acolyte to serve in the temple. Acolytes in Trinity Cathedral bring Christ’s light in the sanctuary to remind us of His presence by lighting the altar candles for worship and extinguishing them to bring the light out in the world. It is a very important role in the church’s ministry. Children starting in the fourth grade are invited to serve as acolytes.
Age Groups NURSERY (birth to 2 1/2 yrs. old)Nursery care is available for children up to 2 1⁄2 years old and is staffed by profession childcare staff. Our nursery staff ensure a safe and loving environment for all of our members. In addition to registering your child for the nursery, parents are encouraged to complete an information sheet yearly so that our coordinators and volunteers will know how to best care for your little one. A beeper system is also in place for safety reasons and ease of mind. BEGINNERS (2 1⁄2 - 4 yrs. old)Our youngest Sunday School class abounds with nurturing love and laugher. Sharon Gibson leads the children in enthusastic singing and storytelling, playtime and snacks. This winter children will hear stories about the joy of being a beloved member of a family: their own little family, their church family and God’s larger family. They will have fun responding through praise and thanksgiving. Life together curriculum and children’s bibles are the primary source of curriculum. Each week the children take home with a Bible picture card to share with their family. These cards may be used to help children respond to God and the world around them through an acquaintance with selected Bible verses, stories and related life experiences. PRE-KINDERGARTEN – 6th GRADEAn extensive curriculum review was completed a year ago with the decision to try something new. Based on comprehensive Bible study, Life Together covers the major Bible stories over a four year period so children experience the stories and messages in ways appropriate to their increasing maturity. Life Together employs multiple learning styles and hands-on activities, making connections to life issues and incorporating worship experiences into each lesson. Church/Home connections and Bible memory verses are also provided and encouraged. At the beginning of each season parents will receive information about the themes and stories covered in Sunday School along with ideas for faith nurturing in the home |
